Wow! Looking back, I can’t believe my last blog post was written in 2017. So much has happened to me (and the world) since then. Like many others, the pandemic hit my business and me pretty hard. However, as of the summer of 2022, I am back in The Go-to Girl full time.
Many of my tasks over the last year have taken my business in a landscape maintenance and seasonal planter design direction. In fact, that route has allowed my business to nearly double in size. What a blessing! I have said many, many times this past year, “I do not want to complain about being busy because this prosperity is something I have prayed for…it is so much better to be ‘busy’ than ‘bored.'”
On top of that, though, I decided I wanted to go back to school and get my Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. Why? Well, for one, with age (I know, I know – don’t come for me, but it’s true!) it is harder for me to recover from the manual labor and summer heat of landscape maintenance. This allows me to work my business and grow it for a few more years until I am ready to shift gears. The other reason is more complex. There is currently a mental health crisis in our country that I find sad, upsetting, and – quite frankly – a bit scary. Right now there is a shortage of teachers, nurses, and counselors. There was a shortage of counselors and a lack of emphasis on mental healthcare before the pandemic that has exacerbated the issue. I’m not really sure everyone is ready to face what a trauma that was, so I think we will continue to see this mental health crisis surge for a while. When the time comes, it will be my sincere honor to assist people on their journey of self-care and self-discovery through this work.
While I am currently in a season of “hustlin'” as my friend, Chelsea, says, and being a bit choosy about my client load, I am always willing to help out the people I care for – like you. Recently, a few friends have had life-altering events happen: a surgery, the death of a family member, and a large plumbing issue to name a few. In times like those, it’s not about being The Go-to Girl – it’s about just being a friend and a person who can be a source of strength and support or resources. Delivering a care package. Being available to help with errands and extra tasks. I couldn’t really “help” with the plumbing issue, but I definitely had a couple of referrals for her!
If you have a task you think I could help with, please don’t hesitate to reach out or refer my name to your friends and family. I’m always happy to help, or consult and pass it on if necessary!
